For Referrers

I welcome referrals from GPs and other medical and allied health professionals. The following information outlines the referral and communication process.

Referral Letters

Referral letters are strongly preferred for all patients referred to my practice. A referral letter provides important clinical context and assists me in understanding the patient’s presenting concerns, relevant history, and treatment needs.

For patients accessing Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Treatment Plan or other relevant Medicare arrangements, a referral letter should be provided and attached to the relevant Medicare documentation where applicable.

Please email referrals and supporting documentation to contact@drashleyfrew.com.au.

Referral process

Once a referral is received, I will contact the patient by phone and/or email as appropriate to discuss their referral and determine whether my service is a suitable fit for their needs.

Patients are also welcome to contact me directly via my mobile regarding their referral or to discuss the referral process.

Feedback to Referrers

With the patient’s consent, I provide written feedback to the referring practitioner at the following points:

  • Medicare patients: A progress letter following the initial 6 Medicare-rebatable sessions, and a further letter at the conclusion of the 10-session allocation.

  • Private health patients (with a referral letter): A progress letter will generally be provided at approximately 6 sessions, or at the conclusion of therapy if this occurs earlier.

  • Patients accessing other insurance schemes: Feedback will be provided in accordance with the requirements of the relevant scheme.

Additional communication with referrers can be arranged where clinically appropriate or where there are significant changes in presentation, treatment needs, or risk.

Urgent or High-Risk Referrals

My practice is not an emergency or crisis service and I am unable to provide an immediate response to urgent or high-risk referrals.

Where there are significant concerns regarding a patient’s immediate safety, including acute risk of suicide or self-harm, serious mental health deterioration, or other circumstances requiring urgent assessment, please refer the patient to an appropriate emergency or crisis service.

A list of relevant crisis and emergency contacts is available under the Contact & Hours section of this website.

For non-urgent referrals where there are identified risk concerns, please include relevant risk information in the referral letter so that this can be considered as part of the referral and treatment planning process.
